The History Of Black Franchise Quarterbacks For The Titans


As Vince Young is minutes away from starting again for the Tennessee Titans, I think it's appropriate to note the black franchise quarterbacks over the years for the organization. Race means nothing, of course, but it is interesting to note that the past three "franchise" quarterbacks are Warren Moon, Steve McNair, and Vince Young.

Warren Moon needs no introduction. The CFL/NFL Hall of Famer threw for nearly 50,000 yards, was the former owner of the NFL Passing TD record, and is well-known for being the first quarterback to truly engineer the "Run & Shoot" offense in the NFL. One-time MVP Steve McNair (requiescat in pace) followed after him starting for the Titans in 1997 and went on to take the Titans to the Super Bowl, coming up one yard short of tying and potentially winning the game. And then, there is Madden Coverboy and former Rookie of the Year Vince Young. But, where is his place on the list of these franchise quarterbacks? The TSS Chart explains it all:
